First time in Japan

Tokyo

I came to Japan in the second week of June on the work of a company. It was a overnight flight from bangkok and sun was out by the time the plane landed at Narita airport. I was tired as I couldn't sleep in the flight. I slowly picked myself up and went through the immigration and customs in a sort of sleepy manner.

The first I did at the airport is to buy a bottle of water and newspaper ( due to habit) as I want to see what sort of news is normally published.  I was a little bit shocked by the cost of the newspaper. The English one costed 180 yen and that comes around to 90 bucks in my currency. The newspaper isn't that fancy too. We get the same paper with many more pages and sections just for 5 bucks in India. I have only heard about the high cost of living in Japan, now I got to see it.

Well it took some time for me to adjust to the fact that the news paper costed 180 yen. I couldn't stop telling myself that it costed so much. Then I went to the train station which is adjacent and connected to the airport, there I bought a ticket by communicating in sign language and abrupt words as the ticket vendor don't speak english. I found the platform as the directions are clear and are in english and got in to the train. I came to Gotanda, which is a small sleepy town in Tokyo city. I heard it is more famous for its night and pleasure activities. Anyway I got down at Gotanda, located my hotel and went to check in.

It was around 10 in the morning. The hotel clerk told me that the check in time is at 3 in the noon, and you have to wait till that time. Boy, I got angry, I had no sleep and I am tired. All I wanted to do was to get under the snug bed covers and get a rest. But these people were firm on their rules, so I kept my luggage there and went out. There is a crossroad just in front of the station, I went there and arbitrarily chose a direction and started walking. The roads are well paved, clean and everything is indexed properly. I walked for almost 3 hours, ate a burger in KFC and came back to the hotel. I waited in the lobby there and the hotel clerk was apoligising over and over for the inconvenience. Finally 3 pm came to pass and I went to the room, undressed myself, took a light bath and slipped under the covers of the bed.
